VISION
Mattima Films is a culturally diverse full-scale production company based in Mo i Rana. We produce and co- produce both long and short-form documentary and fiction films, with an emphasis on working with female filmmakers who are looking for a creatively open and exploratory space to tell their stories. What we look for in filmmakers is less about their background or education, but rather their creative vision and those who support our practice of collaboration across projects – a working method of sharing ideas and skills that has proven fruitful for every member of the Mattima family. Whether narrative fiction or non-fiction, experimental, or doc-fiction hybrids, we strive to produce films that challenge genre trappings and transcend traditional forms.
BUSINESS
With an extensive network spanning several countries combined with in-house expertise, we are capable of working on Norwegian productions of various sizes and budgets. We are happy to enter into co-production deals with foreign companies who want to film, edit or work on post-production in the north of Norway. We can provide filming services, editing, dramaturgical support, graphic design, post-production, VFX as well as location scouting throughout the region. We have also established partnerships with other companies in the north of Norway to provide additional services.

From an early age I have been interested in telling stories, and I started Mattima Films not only as a home for my own projects, but to also work with other emerging filmmakers, creating both the space and freedom needed to develop films as well as nourish talent. It’s a space where we are free to tell our stories while sharing a creative vision through collaborations with people who inspire each other. Coming from a background in performing arts, I use my tools as a choreographer to combine dance and film. As a director I like to challenge the norm and engage in female-forward narratives. Mattima is formed and shaped by its people and their projects, I am proud to see my vision come to life and be part of this community.
Born and raised in Mo i Rana, Norway. Lived 10 years in Rome where he studied visual arts and has been working with visual communication since 2009. Today, Øyvind is part of the production team at Mattima Films, working hands-on with productions and actively participating in the creative process during the development of the company’s projects.
After working in Norway for six years with another production company, I decided to join Mattima Films asAssociates
Stéphanie Morin is a self-taught editor and part-time punk musician dedicated to create and mould cinematic universe through sounds, images and stories.
John is a California native, based in Berlin since 2016. Growing up with two older sisters who dominated the family’s video rental decisions, John did not discover films that “spoke to him” until his teenage years. Since then, he has been fascinated with studying the art of film, especially the works of auteurs, and is moved to pursue meaningful stories. His current project investigates the 1995 Norwegian Rocket Incident, and aims to help mediate modern Western-Russian tensions.
Born in 1983, I grew up in East Berlin, and after long periods of travelling and working in the former Yugoslavia, Romania and at “Upsala Zirk”-circus in St. Petersburg, Russia, I began making documentary and short films. In 2012 I finished my studies in directing at the University of Film&TV “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Having worked in the countryside of Uckermark, Berlin, Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Greece, Bosnia and Norway my latest project “Love Alone Can’t Make a Child” sprang from within my circle of friends and has developed into a long-term documentary. On occasion, I am also working as a cinematographer. I am happy about the collaboration with Mattima Films.
Lucio is a Film editor, Anna works as art director and teacher.
French cinematographer based in Berlin. Studied cinematography at Dekra Hochschule für Medien. He first got in touch with cinematography while working on feature films in Bulgaria as a camera assistant. When he saw what the cinematographer could do, he directly fell in love with this art and knew that it was what he wanted to do in his life. After moving to Berlin he started shooting his own projects and short films as a cinematographer.
Ila Mehrotra was born in Delhi. She graduated from the University of Sussex and has worked in British film and television for the last decade. She has worked for broadcasters including BBC, Channel 4 and ITV on specialist factual and investigative documentaries with a track record of filming primarily on sensitive access based docs. She is a trained photographer with a creative eye who loves exploring the visual medium. Ila is also a long practicing qualified yoga teacher who spends her time growing with somatic learning as an acrobat of the heart.
